National LambdaRail Promotes Grover Browning to Director, Engineering and Operations

Cypress, CA, July 27, 2009 -- National LambdaRail (NLR), the coast-to-coast, high-performance network owned by the research and education community, is very pleased to announce the promotion of Grover Browning to Director, Engineering and Operations, effective immediately.

Browning will now oversee all technical operations for NLR under a contract with Indiana University (IU), where Browning is Manager, National Optical Infrastructures. Indiana University also provides Network Operations Center (NOC) services support for NLR. For the past three years Browning has served as NLR's Director of Engineering. He will report to NLR Chief Technology Officer Wendy Huntoon, who previously handled the Operations function.

The scope of responsibilities for the Director of Engineering and Operations includes: managing NLR's distributed NOC Services, namely the Service Desk, Layer 1 NOC, Layer 2/3 NOC, NLR Engineering and Field Services; planning and managing the NLR infrastructure; managing NLR's technical and operational relationships as well as overall planning and design for evolving the NLR infrastructure.

"Grover's leadership of the team effort behind the highly complex upgrade to NLR's infrastructure, which involved 116 different physical nodes and was executed very quickly and smoothly, is just one example of his many accomplishments as NLR Director of Engineering," said Huntoon.

"With extensive experience in managing diverse network environments and a keen understanding of the technology requirements of the research and education community, Grover is uniquely qualified to take on expanded responsibilities with NLR," according to Tom West, NLR CEO.
